How to Eat Healthy While Traveling
There are so many magic moments on this trip that I will always remember and too many to possibly put into this post. Let’s just say that Australia and its beautiful citizens are absolutely lovely and it is an experience that I am grateful to have had.
The funny thing is, what I haven’t shared with many people is that I totally manifested the entire trip (with a little help from my friends, just like the song says). Yes, you read that right.
I’ve always been a big manifester, and I am very lucky that my BFFs are also a skilled manifesters, too.
So what did myself and my friends’ manifestions include when it came to my overseas adventure?
Well, I flew over to Australia and back to the USA for free, stayed at my friends’ beautiful homes, so I had no hotel expenses, stayed in a luxury hotel for free, flew while I was in Oz for free, was gifted meals, more “cuppas” than I can count, discount coupons, and so much more that would cause this post to go on forever and ever and ever if I shared it all with you.
It was amazing and totally blew my mind!
How did I get to be so lucky? Well, it really wasn’t luck at all. It all started when I stumbled upon one of my amazing mentors, Denise Duffield-Thomas, who is affectionately called the “Lucky Bitch,” and that’s not by accident.
The simple and practical tips she teaches about manifesting are the most amazing that I have found to date. They are nothing short of life-changing, and I highly recommend checking her out.
If you want a sample of some of the techniques that I used to manifest like crazy while I was away, you can check her out at LuckyBitch.com and download her free audio, “Learn the Secrets of Manifesting Money Quickly Without Selling a Kidney!. The techniques that she teaches totally work… My trip is total proof of that.
So now onto eating healthy while traveling.
If you’re still reading this post, I know the burning question on your mind is…
How did you continue to eat healthy while traveling?
Well, for me it required a little bit of preparation. This trip was going to require a lot of travel time, so that brings me to my first of my ‘Top 3 Tips of How to Eat Healthy While Traveling’.
Tip #1: Prepare for Flying.
So the first thing I did to be sure that I could eat healthy while traveling was make sure I had healthy food and snacks for the plane rides and that included bringing packaged superfoods, green powders, healthy snack bars, a few treats (I am a sucker for a good Justin’s Organic Peanut Butter Cup!) and some healthy food to eat on the plane.
I also bought a bunch of waters at the airport, just in case the water on the plane was not drinkable. This is one area that I fell short in both ways across the Pacific Ocean. Even though I drank a LOT of water while flying, I still managed to get a bit dehydrated going there and coming home on the flights.
One last thing in this category… I contacted the airline ahead of time to be sure that I would be served special-order meals while on the plane.
I must admit that I was very happy that I brought my own food when the meals showed up, because they were pretty gross and barely edible, in my opinion.
After I picked out of it the few things I found edible, I was happy to dip into my snack bag and munch away on some healthy goodness.
I have to say that I was extremely lucky that I was going to be staying with one of my best friends in the world while in Australia, Lisa Tremolada from dominatetheinternet.com.au, so that really made things much easier for me.
Lisa and her son, Max, are naturally very healthy eaters, so she of course understood how important it was for me to keep up with my whole-food healthy-eating lifestyle while I was visiting.
Even though I was staying with my sweet friend, I needed the comforts of home while I was there, so one of the first things I asked when we got to her home was, Can you take me to the closest health food store?
Lisa was sweet enough to run me right over there, and I was pleasantly surprised to find many products, some familiar to me and some new, at this store called “Health Food” (love the originality of the name!). I was able to pick up a bunch of items, including some much needed natural lip balm, as my lips got chapped on the flight over. Go figure that one!
I was actually in heaven and like a kid in a candy store when my lovely friend, Lulu Wren of lululove.com.au, brought us there. It was seriously the best farmers market I have ever been to in my life.
If you are ever in Brisbane, I highly recommend visiting it on a Sunday morning.
While visiting the organic farmers market, I was able to pick up some delicious organic produce and make us a healthy meal that Lisa raved about. (I made her a roasted pumpkin stuffed with sauteed mushrooms, onions, garlic and Brussels sprouts – pictured above.)
It always amazes me when my friends from countries outside the United States use adjectives such as “beautiful” and “brilliant” to describe a meal when they love it, and Lisa had a lots of “b” words coming out of her mouth after the meal, I”m happy to say.
Here are some pics of the amazing market in Brisbane…
Tip #3: Choose Healthier Restaurants.
So let me first start off by saying the Australia is a very easy country to eat healthy in. By doing a little research before you travel, you can usually find a slew of healthy restaurants to choose from.
I was shocked when we went into restaurant after restaurant which had menu items notated as “V” for vegetarian or “GF” for gluten free. You barely ever see that in the United States, so I was very impressed with that right from the get-go.
One of the towns we visited was called Byron Bay, and this was literally a healthy eater’s paradise. There was restaurant after restaurant with healthy meals to choose from, and there were more juice and smoothie bars that I could count, which made it a total paradise for me.
Here are a few of the healthy whole-food meals that I ate while traveling to Byron Bay and Sydney…
I was even able to get some fresh-pressed juice and fresh-made kombucha tea (which I have found I am sensitive to if I buy commercial kombucha in the United States) that was freshly-made at the local restaurants. It was amazing!
Here are a few of the delicious drinks I found…
I admit that I did have a huge advantage while traveling to Australia because my friends, Lisa and Lulu, took such good care of me and knew of the delicious and healthy restaurants to take me to.
Never fear though, if you are brand new to a country and have a hard time finding a healthy restaurant, when you go to any old restaurant, simply do your best to stick with whole foods that are on the menu and lay off the sauces and processed food items that you can’t be sure of the ingredients contained in them.
Sometimes You Just Have To Have Some Treats (Especially On Vacation!).
So was it all juices, smoothies and pristine eating while I was on vacation? Heck no.
I’m not saying I didn’t indulge a bit while I was there… I was absolutely determined to try as many chai lattes and healthy chocolate as I could while visiting different cities across Queensland and New South Wales. And that I did.
I actually tried so many of these two delectable treats that by the end of the trip, the thought of either of these two made me want to vomit!
If you don’t believe me on how many I tried, here are just a few of the chai lattes and chocolates from various coffee houses and health food stores and restaurants we visited…
Getting Back to Normal.
Being away on vacation in another country is amazing and also puts a lot of stress on your body. All the running around and traveling for over 30+ hours on the way home found me with a bit of jet lag and a compromised immune system, which is for a later post (so check back here soon).
Now it’s back to my normal routine and time for me to do one of my Back to Basics Whole Foods Seasonal Cleanses. I happen to have my online Sparkle & Shine Summer Group Cleanse beginning next week (I run these life-changing programs several times a year), which is fabulous, as it’s just in time for me to clear some of the toxins out of my body from my travel indulgences (you can see I had a LOT of them) and that dirty airplane air.
If you’re going anywhere soon, happy travels to you, and I hope my tips come in handy! xo
