Check out this scenario:  You have a goal to lead a healthier lifestyle by getting in a little fun exercise and eating some delicious AND healthy whole foods.

  • You’ve started walking your dog Fluffy and even signed up for a yoga class.
  • You’ve started preparing some sensational real food recipes and have managed to kick the processed ‘food” (I use that term loosely) to the curb.
  • You are feeling like an absolute success!

You are doing fantastic with your goal and then it happens… Life gets so freaking busy it is making your head spin!

You’ve been bitten by the I’m-feeling-so-awesome-since-I-started-eating-real-food-and-I-always-want-to-feel-like-this bug and you are desperate to find a way to stick to your goal and not let “being busy” take the pep out of your step, so to speak.

So what’s a healthy gal to do to stay on track?

One of the top questions that I get asked on a weekly basis is, How can I eat healthy while I’m on the go and running around like the Road Runner being chased by Wile E. Coyote?

Well, maybe not the Road Runner part of the question, but you get my drift.

So today I’m finally putting pen to paper (or fingers to keyboard) and mapping out a simple plan for you to follow that I have used for years and years to help keep me on track.

Here are my Top 3 Tips for How to Eat Healthy While You’re on the Go:

Blend Up A Delicious Smoothie

how to eat healthy when you're on the go, eat healthy when busy, how to eat healthy when you're busy, how to eat clean when busy, clean eating when busy, smoothies for health, salads for health, inspired health & happiness, laurie driggers, back to basicsI am just wrapping up running my 21-Day Delicious Smoothie Challenge, and as my smoothie-lovin’ challengers know, smoothies can literally be prepared in minutes for a healthy meal-on-the-go.

What’s even better than smoothies being prepared in minutes?

If you’ve got a busy day coming up, you can prepare your smoothie the night before you have a busy day and voila, you get to wake up to a healthy and delicious breakfast that can be brought with you, no morning assembly required.

I recommend storing your smoothies in mason jars so  you can throw a lid on them and head out the door.

Make a Simple Smoothie

Here’s a quick and easy way to make a smoothie:  Pour some coconut water, almond milk or coconut milk into your blender, then throw in some fruit AND some veggies (spinach, cucumber, celery, e.g.).

Add in a scoop of healthy protein like hemp, flax or chia seeds and some healthy fat like avocado, coconut oil, almond or sunflower seed butter.

For a bit of extra flavor, add some vanilla extract, a dash of cinnamon or even a sprinkle of cayenne pepper.

Blend until smooth and enjoy!

Whip Together A Salad

fresh saladDid you know that salads don’t have to be boring?  Say good-bye to that iceberg lettuce with the old piece of tomato that you never eat anyway.

Salads can be a delicious, satisfying and easy meal especially when you’re busy!

Grab a to-go Pyrex container with a lid and add to it some chopped up lettuce, such as romaine, red leaf or even choose spinach or arugula.

Next, pile on some veggies that you love… tomatoes, cucumbers, carrots, radishes, sliced beets, bell peppers or onions.**  Pick your favorites!

Then add in some healthy protein. Great choices are pumpkin seeds, hemp seeds, chick peas, kidney or adzuki beans, grass-fed pastured organic chicken or a grass-fed pastured organic hard-boiled egg, wild-caught salmon or even a big scoop of your favorite hummus recipe.

Easy combinations are olive oil and nama shoyu, olive oil and fresh lemon juice, olive oil, raw honey and apple cider vinegar or even stone-ground mustard, olive oil and a couple sprays of Bragg’s Liquid Amino Acids.

Toss your dressing together with your salad, put the lid on and you’re ready for a healthy meal while on the go.

**Extra tip:  Chop your veggies in bulk so you can create a few salads at a time.  Hold off on adding in the dressing until you are ready to eat your salad.  The veggies usually last a couple days in the fridge in an air-tight container.

Grab A Cute Insulated Bag & BYOFF

how to eat healthy when you're on the go, eat healthy when busy, how to eat healthy when you're busy, how to eat clean when busy, clean eating when busy, smoothies for health, salads for health, inspired health & happiness, laurie driggers, back to basicsAs I always share with my Back to Basics Cleansers, it’s a great idea to be prepared and BYOFF (bring your own fabulous food) to keep you on track when you’re on the go.

If you’ve cleansed with me before, you know what this picture to the right means… It means I am going out of my house for more than a few hours!

So what’s in my cute insulated bag on this particular day?

Well, it contains some seaweed snacks, a Bragg’s Apple Cider Vinegar drink, a green smoothie, a pear, some dark chocolate, some cold elderberry tea and some hot matcha tea with a little of my favorite raw honey and coconut milk for the road in my glass-lined Thermos.

Even though I may not eat it all while I’m out and about, that’s okay. I’m prepared just in case.

So that’s my last tip for you: Bring a cute insulated bag with lots of healthy food and snacks… Throw in your smoothie, your salad, some fruit (nature’s perfect on-the-go snack!), a healthy, refreshing drink and even a little dark chocolate for a treat. Make things easy for yourself so that you succeed!

Remember, it’s the little habits that add up to completing our big goals. Use these easy tips to ensure that you stick to your goal and kick your old habits to the curb that cause you to not feel so great.
