How To Start Juicing
At the time, I was a type-A, workaholic Ph.D. student, training for the Chicago marathon. I ate cake for dinner and drank 6 cups of coffee a day.
Veggies were not on the agenda. Twinkies, please!
Then, in May of 2006, that was it; I was taken out of the game, completely.
My body went into a total revolt. I could barely walk; I could barely stay awake; I was going in and out of panic attacks; and I had a great deal of hot, fiery, skin-ripping pain all over my body.
It took 5 years to discover that I had Lyme Disease: a systemic bacterial infection transmitted from the bite of a tick.
At the time, I had no idea what Lyme Disease was; I didn’t even know what ticks were.
Within 3 years, I lost the ability to work — my love, my passion, my everything.
My life as I knew it collapsed.
But at the same time, something magical and transformative happened.
During the initial 5 years, when I had no diagnosis, I knew that I had to make radical changes in order to reclaim my life.
Like a swift kick in the ass, my inner voice shouted, ‘You’ve got to take control. You have to do what ever it takes to heal. No one is going to do it for you. You are the one with the power…now move’.
My journey to recovery began in 2007.
If you completely lost your health, what would you do?
Personally, I went into full-tilt-boogie research mode.
I scoured the internet for information, not only on what could possible be wrong with me, but I also started to read about the healing power of food.
But, now, it was my life-line. Food was going to help me on my journey back to the land of the living.
I flipped and reversed every aspect of my diet. I no longer eat cake for dinner (high-fives!); I no longer eat gluten (my nemesis) or sugar (my addiction).
I’ve become a girl who covets her juicer, Vitamix and dehydrator. If my former self met the new me, she would barely recognize the girl in front of her.
I was finally diagnosed with Lyme Disease in 2011, and I began intensive antibiotic therapy, which lasted for two years.
I’m happy to report that I’m almost completely recovered.
I strongly believe that this was made possible because of my decision to change my diet and lifestyle to support my recovery.
I made it my mission to saturate my body with as many body rockin’ plant-based nutrients as possible.
I wanted to shake my immune system alive and smother the flames of inflammation inside my body.
I wanted to build a strong foundation for my recovery so that no big bad wolf could blow this house down, again.
How on earth did I do that, you may ask?
Well…for starters: juicing!
Juicing is a quick, simple and easy way to super-blast your body with raw vitamins, minerals, antioxidants and enzymes that will help you to detox, energize and revitalize your body.
Juicing is also a quick way to assimilate these life affirming nutrients in your body: especially if your health is compromised, and your digestion is sluggish.
